Clinical Training in the
Psychological Treatment of Children
with Trauma - Attachment Problems
A series of six one-week training programs
with Dan Hughes, Ph.D. |
|
|
Dan's treatment model, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, is family-based and focused on facilitating the child's ability to establish a secure attachment with his/her caregivers. Developmental attachment theory and research is the primary model used for relationship development and trauma resolution. Dan blends various approaches into his treatment modality.
These include family therapy, Ericksonian hypnotherapy, psychodynamic principles, psychodrama, and interventions congruent with Theraplay and narrative work. He actively communicates PLACE in order to co-regulate the affect associate with past experiences and to co-construct new meanings of these experiences.
The workshops in July are the 6th summer of training at Colby College that Dan has offered. He has presented similar training programs throughout the US and UK over the past eight years.
The workshops in Annville, Pennsylvania in July-August and October are the first seminars to be offered in this community. They are essentially the same as have been presented at Colby College, while being four days in length, rather than four and one half days. |
Training Levels |
Description |
Beginning Level |
Open to clinicians who are providing services to children and youth with trauma-attachment problems. Training includes live cases, role playing, videotapes, discussions and handouts. |
Intermediate Level |
Open to clinicians who have attended the Beginning Level or a previous equivalent four to five day training with Dan. Training will build on the Beginning Level. Participants have the opportunity to bring a video tape of their work for group feedback and to explore their own attachment histories with two other participants. |
Advanced Level |
Open to clinicians who have attended the Intermediate Level or its equivalent. Everyone is expected to present one or two videotapes of their work unless it has been discussed with Dan prior to the start of the course. There is additional opportunity to explore the impact of one's own attachment history on the treatment process. |
