Dan's treatment model, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, is family-based and focused on facilitating the child's ability to establish a secure attachment with his/her caregivers. Attachment and intersubjectivity theories and research are the central principles used for relationship development and trauma resolution. Dan blends various approaches into his treatment modality.

These include family therapy, Ericksonian hypnotherapy, psychodynamic principles, psychodrama, and interventions congruent with Theraplay and narrative work. He actively communicates PACE in order to co-regulate the affect associate with past experiences and to co-construct new meanings of these experiences.
